How to Be Free - Are you a prisoner to life? Want to be free?

Are you a prisoner to life? Want to be free?
I used my brain to live life - logically smart like taught – the ego let me know exactly where to go, what to know, to make me perfect – what I must do, have, say, buy, and need - who I must blame, fight, judge, grudge, hate - relentlessly, ruthlessly, replaying the past and dreading the future –  a child’s tantrum controlled every move - it cried for scorn and suffering – whipping tirelessly with worry, fear and guilt - justifiably, predictably, incessantly – I was a slave for its bidding - shackled and bound to a neverending rut of dissatisfaction . . . .
One day I could do stand it no longer – I know abuse when I see it, I refused to listen, I refused to hear, not one word did I let rear – Silence, finally everything was perfect, sigh, no judgement, no mistake, no regret, nothing to fret – Could it get better yet?
Alone with the quiet, wasn’t to be -  I heard another voice and she was me - the one that won’t hide and is always along for the ride, shotgun besides, we’re gonna glide –she’s light for the space, dances and sings - no ties, no lies maybe even no dies – I like her better, she is no tether, all storms together, what a pleasure - Breathe she said, everything is going to be alright – I knew her right away,  she’s always come to play, to share, dare, and bare – inspiration, creativity are her perfume – satisfaction is her smile, gratitude and joy are her embrace, and freedom her kingdom . . .
Freedom - There it is, it is always there - Don’t forget now - Now you know
Breathe
Your first breath of freedom - Oh, you didn’t breathe? You don’t believe you are free?
Listen
Is it ego or spirit telling you what to do? - Don’t give in to the silly tantrum of negativity -
Hear instead the music playing in the background - Mmm yes I can hear it, yes, a sweet melody -
Now the epic can begin, you are the hero, adventures abound - don’t listen to anyone, not even me -
Listen only to thee to be

Oregano Oil - Must Have on for SHTF and Homestead

Oil of oregano helps inhibit (and sometimes kill) ninety (90) different types of detrimental bacteria, fungi, parasites, protozoa, yeasts, and molds, such as:
  • Aspergillus (flavus and parasiticus)
  • Bacillus cereus
  • Blastocystis hominis
  • Candida albicans
  • Cryptococcus neoformans (an opportunistic fungus affecting the AIDS patients)
  • Endolimax nana
  • E. Coli (Escherichia coli)
  • Entamoeba hartmanni
  • Giardia lamblia (the cause of Giardiasis)
  • Klebsiella pneumoniae
  • Listeria monocytogenes (commonly called Listeria)
  • Mycobacterium paratuberculosis
  • Proteus (mirabilis, vulgaris)
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa*
  • Salmonella enterica (Gram-negative bacterium)
  • Staphylococcus aureus (responsible for "Golden Staph")
  • Streptococcus pneumoniae ("Strep").
* PLEASE NOTEPseudomonas aeruginosa is a common bacterium found in soil, water, skin flora and most man-made environments. An opportunistic pathogen of immunocompromised individuals vulnerable to infections, it typically infects the pulmonary tract, urinary tract, burns, wounds, and also causes other blood infections.
P. aeruginosa is the third leading cause of hospital-acquired urinary tract infections, accounting for approximately 12 percent of all infections of this type. They are usually related to urinary tract catheterization, instrumentation or surgery.
It is a common cause of post-operative infection in radial keratotomy (RK) eye surgery patients and of "hot-tub rash" (dermatitis), caused by lack of proper periodic attention to water quality.
P. aeruginosa appears to be among the most adherent of common urinary pathogens to the bladder uroepithelium. An infection can occur via an ascending or descending route.
P. aeruginosa can also invade the bloodstream from the urinary tract. This route is the source of approximately 40 percent of P. aeruginosa infections.
P. aeruginosa can cause chronic opportunistic infections. These kinds of infections are a serious problem for medical care. Many patients, immunocompromised and the elderly in particular, often cannot be treated effectively with traditional antibiotic therapy.
As a highly relevant opportunistic pathogen, P. aeruginosa has low antibiotic susceptibility. It is naturally resistant to a large range of antibiotics and may demonstrate additional resistance after unsuccessful treatment.

Free Food Lettuce in a Bag

you could be eating your own lettuce right now - get a bag of poo, you can buy it at the hardware store, any poo will do, i think mushroom compost is the best dollar spent - no not potting soil, nothing will grow in potting soil - at home set it up so the bag is at ledge level with the sunniest window in the house - it is ugly, but it will not smell, keep cats out of it too - cut the bag open so it forms a container that will hold the water - water the bag slowly, until just saturated - sprinkle a mesclun lettuce mix on top by putting the seeds in one hand and pinching some to spread evenly across the compost - this can include arugula, kale, various leaf lettuces, chard, chives, parsley - rotate the bag once a day so it all gets even light and water until satuated once a week - most of these little plants will grow to eating size within 2 weeks, if you can wait until 3 weeks you can give the whole bag a "haircut", leaving about an inch of plant still growing - these plants will regenerate enough in 2 weeks to repeat the process - this can go on until spring and beyond - for example some of the plants in the mix can be transplanted outside in the spring for continued food and seed production - peace

Homestead Peace

I am fiercely moving my life through time to satisfy a covenant to create heaven on earth. Caught in the rapture of nature's powerful forces as they dictate what is to be done each day. Each day secret silent blessings, each day secret silent losses, lessons learned and taught, quietly filling me with joy.

I used to pray to have my way. Now I only pray to be shown the way. No thought of what others think, no attachment to how things look, no mandate for the future. Total submission to trust good will prevail and everything is always as it should be is the key.

It has been 20 years now.
With nothing but each other, we left the other world behind us. Not one day without what we needed, not one day without suffering a little, not one day life didn't have meaning.
Everyone could live like this. Nature takes care of us, it is the natural order of things.

Peace

Homestead Time

How are we to survive?  We are going to expose the secrets and lies that are making us no more than creatures for consumption.  I am so happy to be able to reveal these things to you.

Time is not the same as in the consumer world, corrupted by greed and deafened by suffering.  Dollar per hour is just a formula for slavery.  If a homesteader got paid minimum wage for their labour they would be rich people.  Homeseading is not a way to make money.  In fact it costs money to set up and maintain.

The trade off is, the amount of money you save freely by your labour and frugality and the opportunities that open from you being available.   Fresh organic food, exercise, life outdoors, quiet time in nature, having time to do what you want, free from the shackles of time restraints you also add quality to your life.  It is the ultimate of self employment.

Today I caught a big dog on my place, I scared him off, easily done, in that moment I was available. But this year I also lost my best milker to a cougar, I
was away selling at a market, in that moment years of investment and return were lost.  Money per hour means nothing.

Homesteading has a component rarely spoke of out loud.  It is the quality of life you gain with the experience.  There is a silence in the planning, in the work, a focusing that allows the mind to tap into the power of creation.  We feel it and know that our efforts are aligned to our proper place here. Time disappears like in a great novel, song or drawing and the magic flows through us.

Quilt of Healing

I closed this blog, as it was always my intention, to keep my privacy and security.  Little did I realize the number of people who visit here daily nor the flurry of email I was to get in protest.  When I started homesteading, almost 2 decades ago, not many people were doing it.  This blog was to convince people that this is the best way to help yourself, your family, your community, and contribute to the mending of the planet.

I am going to begin posting again to honor the next generation of homesteaders who don't need convincing.  They are smart and determined willing and ready to work together as we network a quilt of healing across our earth,  They have taught me this is not a time to hide, it is a time to fight.  I feel so blessed to have my heart be connected to yours.

Salt - Easy Preserving Vegetables - Fermentation - Survival Homestead

We are all preparing for the uncertain future ahead of us.  Food shortages and price increases are inevitable. We are not helpless, the world will not die when this generation does,  We must look forward with confidence and optimism that we can not only survive but thrive as the healthy productive humans we were meant to be.
Food Preservation

This blog is going to delve into the activity of living sustainable.  Like there are laws of nature, there are laws that rule our bodies survival. Of these things, nutrient intake is one of the most vital to health.  Being able to preserve food from a time of abundance to a time of lack is imperative.

Salt is impossible to grow.  It could be difficult to come by if food distribution is disrupted.  Not only is  it necessary for safe fermentation, it is necessary for health and a flavor enhancer second to none.  Stock up on sea salt for dining and kosher salt for preserving food for later.

beans, cabbage and garlic preserved only with salt

Freezing and canning traditionally have been used to preserve food.  In fact there are posts on this blog detailing how easy it is to prepare food for freezing.  There both require electricity, one storage and one in production respectively, and nutrients are diminished in the process.  Fermentation preservation has neither of these problems.  In fact nutrition is enhanced by eating pickles, sauerkraut  and other vegetables.

Kosher Salt is the first thing you should stock up on as it alone will preserve your food for later dining.  The salt must not contain iodine like most table salt.  Buy several boxes and store it in the back of a cupboard, it won't go bad.

This is a link to my post for making sauerkraut.  I use this for preserving garlic, hot peppers, cabbage, cucumber pickles and spicy pickled beans.

Survival 2013 - Hope Restored

It is in the dead of winter my heart holds the most optimism for the future.  It is in the darkest days we can see how we truly want our lives to be.  My toes are cold today, but we are secure, safe and happy.    This is the year people will come together to fight for a better life for all.

This is the perfect day to press restart and begin again.

To be self sustaining and ecologically efficient begins at the beginning too.

Today fantasize about how you want your life to be this year.

Free Food - Preserving Food - Eat Local - Frugal Living - Survival Homestead

Our first year was so lean, with 2 extra mouths to feed, that it was necessary to learn about the wild food available. I would search for them then put them in paper lunch bags and staple it to the wall of our shack to dry. I was amazed over 50 different plants we identified and preserved to the winter. I truly believe that the medicinal properties of these plants and mushrooms help sustain us through the tough winter.

It is not natural to buy nutrition from countries far away.
I bought some cinnamon the other day, it was such a bargain. I threw it out as soon as I got home, compared to my other cinnamon, it was cut without a light coloured substance. I am not a paranoid person, but I wonder if a country can put white poison in baby formula, what is stopping them from slipping it into food destined for unknown privileged tables.

Herbs and seeds dried for spices, are the perfect example of how easy and free preserving food can be. Parsley, sage, thyme, oregano, and mint should be grown and dried in every household.  They grow like weeds and pound per pound more nutritious than vegetables. Their flavors enhance any recipe. It is my job to save money and I do it at all costs. This time of year money is particularly tight as winter stores of rice, coffee, sugar, flour and the like are purchased. We buy in bulk at wholesale saving 80% of store prices. We also buy a beef and pork from other farmers in the fall. At just over $2 a pound for both steak and hamburger, clean meat is a bargain. Mostly we grow the only vegetables and fruit consumed during the summer for the winter. All our meals our whole foods as fresh as possible, cooked at home.

After 10 years, the farm produces without needing money or bringing money in. Of course one could argue that it is part of my mortgage cost. Money was also used to pay for the infrastructure and upgrades here. Fencing, pens, raised beds, soil, energy efficiency upgrades costs eventually pay for themselves in returned savings.

I could tell you we have 10 mature nut trees, 30 mature fruit trees, 12 mature grape vines, a large raised garden and all the food they provide and you could be all impressed. I wouldn't tell you of the hazelnut orchard with 100s of trees growing wild on the hill (no doubt the work of squirrels), or how easy it is to grow a new grape from a cutting, or how one of the biggest jobs in the orchard is to keep the self-seeded saplings cut down. Packed away is 5 pounds of seed saved for planting. We have vinegar and too much wine. Wild herb and mushrooms fill my apothecary cabinet. This time of year clean lake fish fill the smoker. The wood grows here that  heats our home. The cats get the rodents and the dog the predators. There is enough weed seeds and worms to feed enough chickens to keep us in eggs and crispy fried all winter. I haven't bought a chick in 7 years. This year alone more than 30 chicks were born and raised without intervention from me. (No really, free ranged in the yard with the mom I didn't even need to feed or water them.) All this is available every year, with variance but without fail.

We used to raise our own pigs and goats too. It is impossible to do this for only one family. A family will eat a couple of pigs a year. A mother pig can have a dozen piglets 3 times a year! A good goat will present over 2 litres of milk twice a day. Even if one makes cheese it is far more milk than can be used in one kitchen. The goat only has milk after pregnant. To maintain these animals you must keep a male and female. They are herd animals and thrive best if you can keep a little herd. They must be fenced always and monitored to protect them from predators. They must have fresh feed available all year all year and their health maintained daily. You can see where the expense of time and money would make total sustainability prohibitive for a single family. I don't have the time or the money to feed, raise, process and market this many animals.

You can see this patch of nature we've nurtured for years can produce enough for 3 or 4 families. Nature certainly does her part and I do mine by reaping what was sown.
I am shocked to finally realize, without a doubt, what is missing to make this farm self-sufficient is people. If only I had the seed to grow a community, hmmm . . . . .

How to Find Peace? SHTF Survival 2012

Life could be seen as a raft floating down a river on your way to the great ocean.

We can fear getting snagged to by the bushes on the edges, be uncertain of those who ride with us and anxious of the turbulence which may lie ahead for us.

Inadvertently, in our ignorance, selfishness and panic lured by attractive little streams that promise what appears to be a shortcut or easier way.

Naturally, unfortunately and inevitably, we always have to come back to our rightful place on the river. And, why is it somehow the stream back is never quite as alluring?

We are not the raft, we are the river, the raft the conscience manifestation of life.

How to start again? SHTF Survival Homestead Help Me Please

And so now it is time to begin again . .

How to start again?

1.  Try to relax.  Even in our worst crisis we can still hear the self voice.  We don't want to, we want to be totally justified in our frustration and sorrow.  The voice says, now let it go, know this will pass, just float in the flow. Truth is even when we have everything we have no control.  When you have nothing you are thankful for this.

2.  Do what is in front of you to do.  Hungry, then find food.  Sick, then go back to bed.  Lonely, then go help someone.  We are not here to work to extinguish the world with our consumerism.  Without the consideration of money, you can see where you want to be in life, and you don't need money to walk that path everyday.

3.  Be kind to yourself.  Don't accept negative or condemning thoughts. Let them pass like farts because they are only the gas of the mind and should have no bearing on your life.  Feelings of guilt or remorse should be like thoughts of memories and then let go too.  Don't let anyone use guilt to make you do something you don't want to do, this is abusing yourself unnecessarily.

4.  Take care of your body.  This vehicle is your equipment to survive the journey so keep it  healthy.  Feed it, clean it, clothe it, exercise it, pleasure it, enjoy it, share it, love it.  Don't wear things that don't fit.  Don't subject it to the incessant damage of toxins in food and in your environment.    Don't allow someone else to exploit your body by using you as a money making machine, if you do you will pay with your body on another day.

5.  Look only forward.  There is a reason we forget the days so quickly, how they just evaporate from existence,  It is because they do.  Holding on to the past is like trying to catch farts.  What's the point?  This second is the most important in our minds, that is because each must be experienced to the fullest.  And then, similarly, let go to make room for the next.  Everything changes all the time, be available for what life's gifts ahead.

Regardless of what we have or who you have, know you are right where you are to be in the history of the world.  Listen to the voice who whispers what you need to do to live a satisfying life.  Consider it predetermined.  Consider all you will need will be there when you need it.  Consider you are important to the world in this second, otherwise you would not be here.  Consider everyone doing what they should be doing to make this life a blessing to the world.

Starting with Nothing - SHTF - Survival in Nature

here i am, what a lovely letter we certainly are falling in love with each other, lol, thought i would tell you what is going on here, not to brag or complain but to have something to say - started with 26 turkey egss, 7 hatched, down to 2 - but - they are very strong and healthy, recovered from injury and best of all a male and female - they live with another chick in my livingroom, they need it very warm so now there is shit everywhere, good thing they are little bad thing is this is where i sell my stuff usually - roy is alllergic to them so i have to figure out how to keep them warm while it gets colder, there is a truck canopy in the back yard, maybe i can set up a heat lamp and keep them protected from critters,  . .. coffee is finished now roy just came in from doing firewood must go be a loving wife \best part of my job) so more later peace heart

the turkeys are outside now, everyday when the sun hits the front porch i send them out - this big clean farm and my babies are in the most contaminated area, then they go huddle in the shade and hide from the other chickens - more and more they play and run around now on the ground and fast - hard to catch at the end of  the day to put in the house- today was awesome my shadow chicken herded them into the house for me

this chicken just will not leave me alone when i am outside, she came with the batch of birds from a neighbor moving away - it was great to have chickens again but on arrival they were mean and egg eaters, so i have no eggs - have new clippers and will dock the beaks of the culprits -

anyway one day a lone chicken was pacing the fence where i was, there wasn't another bird in sight - she was upset and obviously wanted my attention - she seemed to be saying "remember me?! remember me?!?' - outloud i told her she didn't have to try and con me, i let all girls out who just can't stand being in the pen anymore \- she just would no leave me alone \(i love this) - she has since stole the butt from my fingers and my heart

next day another lone chicken, doing the same song and dance alone, when i opened the gate, she sat and let me pick her up - in my head again i heard words \\'you know me, you know me\' - so very happy she was, when she joined the other chicken on ground at my feet the truth of matter was loud and clear  -THESE WERE MY CHICKENS, bought chicks \i had raised by hand - it took chickens to make me remember\- we had so much success with raising chickens that year that we sold some to one lady who sold them to another whom i bought them back\

once i realized this it was very easy for me to gentle the meanness out of the flock - birds are so very rewarding \(they can also be heartbreaking like anything else of value)

no time to proofread or pretty this up - more later - peace

ps just came in, have lost my sheep and it is now dark, hope they come home with their tails wagging behind them

Sunny Smiles

 if you were here now,
too hot to work,
we would sneak away to the seclusion of the stream,
captive to the dancing shadows of the trees,
cut off from the sounds of the world
by the rush of the water
 breathe deeply the ozone
feel the cool on your skin,
in front of you an endless emerald forest
dancing with butterfly
 decorated with berries
time slips away
life is magic
when we return
our feet are cold from water
our dresses wet from the frolic
our hearts filled with gratitude
to love the land
is to be loved by the land
as it should be
home is waiting
peace

My humility and gratitude for my land is great today, as we watch much loved land and people whither from afar.  Praying for relief for my brothers and sister suffering.

I have been silent for months now . . . reluctant to say the only thing left worth saying . . .

DO IT NOW - MAKE THE CHANGES -
 INITIATE THE PLAN

if you don't you will look back at this moment with regret,
why not look back on it with pride?

The world will not end when this generation does.  We do have the power to change the course of our lives.  We can focus on the realities of being alive rather than these collective illusions which keep us in bondage.

When to Plant Garden? - Planting by the Moon - Garden Secrets - Learn to Garden What When Why

What you won’t read on a seed packet is when to plant them in the ground.  You can bury seeds to fit your schedule, but they will sprout and grow on their own schedule. Knowing this critical factor is crucial to being able to grow food most effectively.

April 29, 2012

Best Beginner Garden - How to Read a Seed Packet - How to Buy Seed - What Seeds? - SHTF - How to Have a Garden

A seed is actually a living and breathing entity.  All she will be is in her now, waiting in anticipation for the fruition of destiny.  Because seeds magically have their own communication with creation, planting a seed and watching it grow is like witnessing Immaculate Conception.  And when that plant joyously blooms, we share in the rapture as if, almost, it was our own creation.

Words on a Seed Packet

Name tells which plant seed is in the packet, usually as we would generically refer to it, like a last name Tomato.  As many plants grow in different areas under different names.  Latin names are used for definitive identification, and allow us to access the pertinent data that has been collected around the world on a plant that might well be a native weed to us.

Start by growing the vegetables and fruit you like eating and expand your repertoire to the food plants which will produce in your area when no other plants are available.

Variety is the unique name for the plant; only plants with this name are totally the same, like a describing name as in Red Beefsteak tomato.  Each variety has different characteristics like appearance and growing habits.  One variety of squash will grow prolifically where another won’t grow at all.  The heritage of vegetables has included a great number of varieties.
