Geologists Rockhounds -What is this rock?


Can anyone help me identify this rock I found today.

Yes it is iron ore, the rock itself looks like a petrified egg (am from the alberta badlands, so that is my reference, lol) - it is very heavy, it is so unique the picture doesn't show this too well - i will let you know if there are any diamonds in it when i smash it open, thanks for stopping by, peace

  5. Iron pyrite perhaps? otherwise known as fool's gold.

  6. hi Pearl, we have lots of pyrite here, it is sort of the colour of smokey topaz, the rock is blue so that is iron for sure - thanks for playing along, peace
