I need to eat meat to be healthy, I wish I didn't. I refuse to eat meat from animals held in torturous conditions or one fed hormones, chemicals and unhealthy diet, just for the profit in a person's pocket. So we moved to the country and became farmers.
We raise them from babies, lovingly taking care for their every need, food, water, shelter, companions and play to frolic safe from predators. Then in the fall, when we can no longer afford to keep them, we eat my animals.
You won't see any pictures of them frolicking about, although that is exactly what they do all day. Their happy noises, playful antics, and joy at your attention would truly be the delight of any person's life.
Don't judge me too harshly, the box of chicken you bring home tonight also lived and died for you too.
I, on the other hand, LOVE meat. But like you, I consume meat raised and slaughtered under humane conditions. I take comfort in knowing what is on my plate had the chance to graze and frolic under sunny skies, and was slaughtered in a humane, less stressful manner. I find that since our family has made that choice, we do eat less meat than we did before, and we always give thanks to the animal who enabled us to have such a luscious dinner. My 2 young sons are even aware now of what goes into the meat that arrives on their plates. Kudos to you, no judgement here!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by the Expo. the deadline for Entries ended Thursday night, sorry you missed it this time, but we'll be doing another one either for Christmas or leading into the spring.
Thanks Erin, what a sweet woman you are, your words are comfort to me while i mourn and pine a bit here, knowing there are people in world with my values makes me feel kindred more than can be expressed, times they are a changin', good thing too - peace
ReplyDeleteWhy do you need meat to be healthy. I eat a strictly plant based diet along with my wife and we are healthy.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you need meat to be healthy? I'm a vegan and I'm healthy.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I are practically vegetarians at this point in our lives because of the deplorable conditions most animals are raised in these days. We will occasionally eat wild game and some salmon if it becomes available to us but have chosen not to raise our own meat animals for the time being. Although our flock of ornery Rhode Island Reds do provide us with protein rich eggs on a daily bases.
ReplyDeleteOne has to wonder how much of today's health problems come from eating the hormone and chemical ridden remains of animals that knew not one happy day...perhaps it is their revenge.
Good for you on raising your own as that is how it should be. I truly believe that the meat of a properly raised animal is an extremely nutritious form of sustenance and that the exact opposite is true of factory farmed meat and eggs.
aren't eggs wonderful!!! protein perfection as far as I am concerned - iron deficiency is a good reason to eat meat - i love your animal farm analogy - thanks for the visit - peace for all
ReplyDeleteHI there! Just found your blog and am really enjoying it. I'm like you -- I've tried many versions of vegetarianism, raw foods, etc. I'd love not to eat meat. But I always start feeling sick and run down, bloated, yucky. I don't raise my own animals yet, and I eat mostly veggies, but the meat part of my diet I buy directly from local farmers I know.
ReplyDeletethanks for the introduction, you are my kind of people, am off to read your blog, peace
