Treasures
We have a packrat living in our garage. He is the cutest critter, big eyes, bushy tail. He is going through all the boxes in storage out there, taking the shiniest things for the meter high nest he is building in a box on the shelf. He looks at me like I am interrupting his work and is not frightened at all. One day I will try and catch him in my trap again, until then I just fret about the mess he is making. It’s not like I want to clean out the garage in the middle of winter.
What are you going to do with him when you catch him? Packrats are, as you said, just about as cute as they come but they are just so destructive to organized storage! I no longer live in an area that has them, but I still do all my storage in plastic stackable bins anyway. Of course, you'll never need to worry about dropping your wedding ring and losing it forever...the packrat will surely find it for you!
ReplyDeleteHe is a cute little bugger isn't he?

Too cute, and comes around like a kitten looking for attention - we live deep in the woods, we take him deeper in the woods further from people - good thing they are a solitary critter and like to live alone - and yes i too live with my storage in rubbermaid containers! peace
ReplyDeleteOH he is adorable!!!!!! Can you just leave a box out there that is just for him? Stuff in it he likes and keep him? I am terrible I know. But I love little furry cutie pies.
ReplyDeleteO you are a softie aren't you? It sounds so romantic but there little nests get to be over a foot high and while they are full of shiny trinkets they are held together with rat urination and droppings - a smelly dirty mess! It is too bad though, you are right the cuteness factor is incredible - but the smell - pu! I used to have little hedgehogs, they too are very cute, they are nocturnal, surprisingly clean, you can leave them unattended for days, and r o so fun to interact with. Your magazine looks awesome if I had the money I would subscribe, don't know if you know this about me i am obsessed about my lifestyle but i am ADDICTED to beads and beading - so happy to have met you - peace
ReplyDeleteWe used to have a cat that would bring pack rats in and let the go to play with later. I would catch them with a shoe box or something and let them go in the woods. The last one almost beat me back to the house. It's a wonder they aren't extinct, because they are slow moving and easy to catch.
ReplyDeleteyes i have seen how trusting they are - one of the funniest story my husband has ever told is about the time he took a trapped pack rat into the woods and how it would not leave him alone almost insisting to be brought back in the car - i love the innocence of nature, it is when man violate this i get the most agitated, love your blog thanks for visiting, peace for all
